Blogtober 2022 Day 29 entry
“Well done, Rhys,” Eila said, picking herself up from the floor.
“Where did he come from?” Adriana asked.
“He’s been spying for us for the past few weeks,” Eila said, “since we discovered our ship was missing. Wynn cloaked him earlier tonight, and he followed us inside…just in case.”
“You didn’t trust me?” Adriana asked.
“I did, but a captain must plan for all contingencies.”
“I thought we were invisible,” Adriana said.
“Mostly invisible,” Wynn said.
“It’s easy to spot if you know what you’re looking for,” Rhys said. “Tobias was too arrogant to think we would resist him.”
“That was quite a strike,” Adriana said. “We’re fortunate you were here.”
“Think nothing of it,” Rhys said. “I’m the first mate; it’s my job to protect the captain and the crew.”
“He’s also the last one whom our enemies would want to provoke in a fight,” Eila said, “which is one of the many reasons he’s my first mate.”
“Let’s get you two on your way before anyone else shows up,” Rhys said. “How can I help?”
Adriana showed Rhys what he needed to do control the power, while Wynn focused his mind on the port of Barcelona, the last place in their world they left before coming to the cursed shores of Atlantis.
The glow from within the portal intensified as the choral hum grew louder. Eila and Adriana looked at each other without speaking. Eila took her hand, and Adriana smiled. They stepped off into the past.
