Blogtober 2022 Day 26 entry
Wynn explained to Adriana how his invisibility spell worked, and while she was impressed with the spell—true invisibility had eluded magicians for eons—she confessed that Atlantis had nothing comparable.
“Why not?” Eila asked.
“We have no need for such a spell,” she said. “It’s a perfect society.”
“Are you sure you want to leave?” Eila asked.
“We need no secrecy because our entire lives are based on a delusion,” Adriana said. “Yes, I’m quite sure.”
Eila joined Adriana for dinner at her home, a common occurrence that would draw no suspicion. Wynn engaged his invisibility spell and arrived in the night.
He instructed them to wear the darkest robes they had. Wynn sighed when he saw they were light gray, but he said if they stayed in the shadows, the spell should keep them out of sight.
Adriana led them to the portal chamber; they encountered no one along the way. Wynn saw that same glow and heard the faint hum when they entered. Eila stood at the edge and peered inside.
“What do you see?” Wynn asked.
“Nothing,” Eila said. “It looks empty.”
“Come here, Wynn,” Adriana said. “These are the power controls. I’ll be using them. The other pedestal is for time and place. That is up to you.”
He walked to the other pedestal and inspected the exquisite array of polished crystals that composed the time device.
“How does it work?”
“You imagine the time and place,” she said. “The panel reads your thoughts.”
