Blogtober 2022 Day 25 entry
Silence hung in the room after Wynn’s last statement, the three of them knowing what he was asking.
“I’ll go with her,” Adriana said. “If what you say is true, I can no longer live here knowing that our existence is an abomination that never ends.”
“What if he’s wrong?” Eila said. “Magicians don’t know everything. They’ve been wrong about magic before.”
“Whose side are you on?” Wynn said.
“I’m thinking of all of us,” Eila said. “If you’re wrong, you and the crew will be trapped here for the rest of your lives, and I’ll be God knows where. We’d also be forcing Adriana to leave a life she loves, a world where peace and prosperity fill every day with happiness.”
“It seems that way,” Adriana said, “but if we can never leave, if it’s just an endless loop from which we can never escape, it’s more hell than heaven.”
“It’s your choice,” Eila said. “If we compel you to go, we are no better than the others who would force us to stay.”
“It has to be tonight,” Adriana said. “The portal only works at certain times. After tonight, we would have to wait another five weeks, and the others will be using it then.”
“Can I operate the portal by myself?” Wynn asked.
“It will take the two of us to activate it, but the process is simple,” Adriana said. “The challenge will be getting there undetected.”
“Let me take care of that,” Wynn said.
