Blogtober 2022 Day 21 entry
Wynn was waiting at Eila’s when she returned with Adriana. He confronted her without prelude.
“I witnessed your death ceremony last night,” he said. “We’d like an explanation.”
“How was this possible?” she asked.
“Unimportant,” he replied. “You’ve been distracting us with food and festivities, and our ship is no longer moored in your harbor. Now we’ve discovered that you send your elderly through a death portal.”
“I see your magical powers are more advanced than you’ve demonstrated,” she said. “Why should I tell you anything?”
“You said you wanted us to choose to stay,” Eila said. “We cannot make that choice if we are prisoners.”
“You are not prisoners,” Adriana said. “You are our guests, and we have treated you like royalty.”
“I am royalty,” Eila said. “I am the niece of the Queen of Llanfyllin, and if you are truly my friend, the time for secrets is past.”
“Where is our ship?” Wynn asked.
“On the far side of the island,” Adriana said.
“Can we use it to get home?” Eila asked.
“No,” Adriana said.
“Why not?”
“You passed through a portal to arrive in our waters,” Adriana said. “It’s a one-way journey. You cannot go back. None of us can.”
“That’s why Atlantis disappeared in ancient times,” Wynn said. Adriana nodded.
“What about the portal I saw last night?” Wynn asked.
“I assure you, there is nothing diabolical about it,” Adriana said. “It sends people back to your world at a time before they fell into ours.”
