Blogtober 2022 Day 20 entry
The people of Atlantis always seemed happy, but the next morning, the mood throughout the island was joyous. Musicians played in the public circle at the heart of the community, and the people talked, laughed, and embraced each other in celebration.
Eila convinced Wynn to let her approach Adriana alone with the promise she would bring her to Wynn to explain what he saw the night before.
Eila found her in the circle dancing around the fountain, her long hair unbraided and festooned with colored ribbons and flowers. Eila hesitated to watch her for a moment until Adriana noticed her.
“Eila!” she said. “I’m so happy to see you today!”
“What’s the occasion?”
“I know many of our customs seem strange to you,” she said, “but we are celebrating the life of one of our oldest citizens today. He left us last night to begin his life again.”
“You believe in reincarnation?” Eila asked.
“I suppose you might describe it that way,” Adriana said. “It’s different from how the Hindus believe that they are reborn into a new body. Our way is difficult to explain to outsiders, especially for those who find the end of life a cause for sadness and grief.”
“I would be flattered if I lived a life that warranted such a celebration as this,” Eila said.
“You could, if you decided to become a part of our community,” Adriana said.
“It’s funny you should mention that,” Eila said. “Can we talk about it at my residence?”
