Chapter 11: Alluring

Blogtober 2022 Day 11 entry

The sheer face of the cliffs bordering the strait looked like human construction upon closer observation, but neither Eila nor Wynn could imagine a force, human or magical, that could have carved out the passage.

They emerged into a harbor where the water was as blue as a sapphire and so clear they could see for fathoms down. The harbor marked the edge of a magnificent city encompassing the water.

Cities in Europe stood distinct from nature; this city, however, looked as if nature itself had spawned it. The buildings were crafted in unity with the trees and the earth, with the borders between buildings and roads filled with bright green grass and vibrant flowers.

The roads, narrow and stone-paved, followed the contours of the land instead of carving out straight lines. The buildings showed no signs of brick and mortar or joined woods. The exteriors were smooth and uniform, and the colors varied as much as the plant life.

As they approached the harbor docks, Eila saw the residents for the first time. They were mostly young, and their appearances varied as much as the plants and the buildings. Skin tone, hair, and clothing—robes, dresses, tunics and trousers—all as colorful as the rest of the city.

“It staggers the imagination, does it not?” Wynn said.

“It’s the most alluring place I’ve ever seen,” Eila said. “It makes Barcelona look like a rubbish heap.”

“The people appear friendly,” he said.

“Let’s hope they are equally alluring,” she said.
