Blogtober 2021 Story Project
The full moon made the desert sands east of Alexandria look like a blanket of snow. Four men stood in front of two carts pulled by donkey in expectation of their arrival.
“Greetings to you, Legionnaire,” said the oldest of the four. “Your courage and your faith have saved us all.”
“I thank you, but all my comrades with me fought equally,” Lucius said. “The honor is shared among us.”
“And so shall it be told,” the man said. “I am Rabbi Isaac bin-Joachim, and on behalf of the Library, I welcome you to Alexandria. Will the Levites with you please join our men on the first cart, please? We have a most pleasant welcome prepared for them in the city.”
“What about the Ark?” Samuel said.
“We shall protect it with all the reverence it deserves,” Isaac said. “Have no fear.”
Chaim nodded, and the young men stepped onto the cart, which left at once.
“What’s going to happen to them?” Lucius asked.
“We have skilled magicians to rearrange their memories,” Kamali said. “They will believe they took the Ark to Antioch, which is where they will awaken in a few days.”
“It’s a shame they won’t remember their bravery,” Lucius said.
“That they will keep,” the second man said. “You and Chaim, however, will join us at the Library. If you decide to stay, then your adventure is only beginning.”
“Who are you?” Lucius asked.
“Joseph of Arimathea,” he said. “I’m the leader of the Library of Alexandria.”
