Getting to Ellesmere Keep wasn’t a problem for them. They already lived in Llanfyllin City, and the castle was visible on the horizon from their residence in the Magician’s Guild apprentice academy. Getting inside the castle was the challenge, as the walls of the keep were thirty feet high and guarded at all points of entry.

“Once we’re inside the keep, we’ll need to get inside the castle,” Aidan said. “Beca’s door spell will make that easy, but then we have to find the king’s study.”

“What is that?” Bryn asked.

“It’s a private library,” Aidan said. “It’s where our kings and queens keep their private collection of books.”

“How do you know about this?” Beca asked.

“You’d be surprised what you hear adults talking about when you’re invisible,” he said.

“Do you know which book you’re looking for?” Bryn asked.

“Not exactly, but I’ll recognize the language, and it will be an old book.”

“And this one will tell you where to find the invisible book?”

“I hope so, yes.”

“Let’s hope it tells you how to find an invisible book,” Beca said. “It could be on the floor in your quarters, but you’d never see it.”

“If there wasn’t a way to see it, it might as well not exist at all,” Aidan said. “That’s part of our quest—to reveal the book and read its secrets.”

“Oooh, a quest!” Bryn said.

“How exciting!” Beca said.

“When do we start?” they said together.

“All Hallows Eve,” Aidan replied.
