Still exuberant from their discovery, the apprentices gathered their things and planned to travel to Edinburgh through the portal station. Gaining access, however, was still an enormous obstacle.

“We could become invisible again,” Beca suggested.

“Who knows how long we would have to wait for someone to choose Edinburgh as their destination?” Aidan said. “London, sure, but Edinburgh is not a common place to travel.”

“Could we forge a passport?” Bryn asked.

“Have you ever seen one?” he replied. They both shook their heads.

“I know what to do,” Bryn said. “You steal a passport from someone in line. I’ll cast the glamour spell to make you look like that person. You make us invisible, and we’ll follow you through the portal.”

“I thought you didn’t want me to steal anymore,” Aidan said.

“Drop the passport before you go through,” Beca said. “The rightful owner will find it, and we’ll be gone before they suspect anything.”

Pickpocketing was literally child’s play for Aidan, who had been lifting purses since he was old enough to reach them. He took it from a human whose clothes identified him as a wealthy man, and Bryn’s spell transformed Aidan’s appearance to match the description on the passport. She thought to give him different clothes, however.

Aidan made them invisible and queued in the shortest line available. The elf tending the portal barely glanced at him before stamping his approval. Aidan tossed the passport aside before he and the twins stepped through the portal.
