Aidan cast his invisibility spell on the three of them before they exited the woods. When they reached the walls of the keep, they kept close to the wall where the shadows were darkest.

“Are we going through the wall?” he asked.

“I’m afraid it would collapse if I used my door spell,” Beca said.

“This one’s for me,” Bryn said. She spoke an incantation in Arabic to levitate them to the top of the wall and back down to land in the castle courtyard.

“When did you learn to levitate?” he asked.

“It’s not difficult,” she said. “You take the air around you and give it the power to lift you up.”

“You would know these spells if you spent any time on something other than invisibility,” Beca said.

“My invisibility is why we’re not surrounded by castle guards now,” Aidan said. “Let’s keep moving.”

Getting inside the castle was much simpler, as the Halloween festivities took place in the courtyard as well as inside the castle, so the large, wooden double doors were open. Knights flanked the entrance, but so many people entered and exited that the magicians passed through undetected.

“We’re inside,” Beca said. “Well done, Aidan. Now what?”

“We need to find the king’s study,” he said.

“This castle is vast,” Bryn said. “Looking blindly will take all night.”

“Do you have a better idea?” Aidan said.

“Yes, I do,” she said. “Drop your invisibility spell on me. I need to be seen.”
