“Ben?” Siannon said.
“Hello, Siannon,” the Rabbi said.
“This was your doing?”
“Don’t forget your amulet, dear,” he said. “The magic is exhausted, but the sapphire is still real.”
She took the amulet from the pedestal and replaced it around her neck as she joined him at the top of the chamber.
“Well?”
“Asha was the first to be concerned for your safety,” the Rabbi said. “That happens when you share your mind with a dragon. She told your children, and Malcolm came to me for help.”
“You were able to create all those experiences in one amulet?”
“When you live for almost 300 years, you get a lot of time to explore the limits of magic,” he said. “In this case, however, the amulet was only a tool; your memories created the experience.”
“I’ve been so lost in my own sadness, I couldn’t recognize how much my children needed me.”
“Not only them,” the Rabbi said. “Your family and friends throughout the world have sent me messages of concern. We all feared you might be slipping away.”
“I wanted to,” Siannon said. “But now I realize that Dylan wouldn’t want me to give up my life for him. He loved me too much to allow that to happen. Seeing him again, even for a moment, was a great gift. Thank you, Ben.”
“You’re like a daughter to me, Siannon,” the Rabbi said. “What else would I do?”
“What happens next?” she asked.
“I’m taking you home,” he said.
