Aidan waved his hands and moved through the blue haze to peer into the cauldron. At the bottom of the pot was a translucent oval. He picked it up to examine the results of the spell. When he put it over his eye, he could see through it.

“Hand me the book, please,” he said. Beca handed it to him, and he turned to the page with the spell she completed. The enchanted spyglass revealed a new language between the existing lines on the book, but one which he did not recognize.

“Bryn, cast a translation spell,” he said. They knew two kinds of translation spells, one for speaking and one for print. After she completed the spell, the words became intelligible.

“Along the Firth of Forth lies a rock upon a castle grand,” he read. “Winged creatures upon the walls make their stand. Around its neck a trinket you must find to open up the gateway of your mind. Within the bounds of your imagination you will see the secret of true invisibility.”

“Is there anything else?” Bryn asked. Aidan flipped through the rest of the pages and shook his head.

“Where is the Firth of Forth?” he asked.

“Edinburgh,” they said in tandem.

“Rock upon a castle grand refers to Castle Rock, the location of Edinburgh Castle,” Beca said.

“How do you know this?” he asked.

“Father likes to travel,” Bryn said. “You’ve never been?”

“I’ve never been outside of Llanfyllin until today,” Aidan said.
